The perfect layover duration is from 5 to 9 hours – this gives you enough time to go through passport control, get to the city and see two or three sights.

However, if you want to visit the city during your layover, the main thing to take care of in advance is a transit visa. Thoroughly study the visa requirements of the country you’ll be transferring in. We always recommend checking the information on the website of the embassy or consulate of the transit country.

If you don’t require a visa for the layover, or if you already have one, then congratulations – this is a great opportunity to get a little feel for the city. Calculate in advance how long it will take to get to and from the city and find out which mode of transport is best.
